Letter from the President’s Desk

±á±ð±ô±ô´Ç,Ìý

As we officially head into the fall season, I write with a few notes from the ACSA President’s Desk.

Just last week, ACSA First Vice President Luis Rico-Gutiérrez and I attended the semiannual Architectural Alliance meeting with our counterparts at AIA, AIAS, NCARB, NAAB, and NOMA, hosted this time by AIA. ´óÏóÊÓƵ for collaboration and advocacy across the allied organizations were a central focus of the agenda. We look forward to continuing to work together to advance the field of architecture across disciplines.

In August, we held the first of three annual ACSA Board of Directors meetings with the 2026-27 Board. We discussed actions to advance our strategic plan goals of supporting architectural education as a “strong field” and providing an enriching and inclusive professional home for architectural educators across the ecosystem of program types and institutional settings. These actions include continuing advocacy efforts on behalf of schools, faculty, and students; reexamining membership categories and benefits; and pursuing additional initiatives in support of our mission.

Summaries of board meeting agendas and key outcomes are now available for members to review on our website.

While in DC, I spent some downtime in the ACSA office at the newly renovated AIA Global Campus for Architecture & Design, reading through ACSA archives dating back to our founding in 1912. While a great deal has changed, one strong and discernible thread is the recognition of the virtues of association itself: the desire of architectural educators to come together in creative and intellectual fellowship, even when they offer differing perspectives. The archival materials contain ample evidence and examples of innovation and progress that have emerged from the various perspectives our members bring together.

I look forward to seeing you, either in person or online, in the coming months. This week, our team is heading to New York City for the 2026 Intersections Research Conference: Urban Design Matters. We will also travel to Tucson, AZ, for the 2026 Administrators Conference: Extreme Shifts, October 29-31. Whether it’s at one of our conferences, webinars, meetings, or workshops, we each contribute to the ongoing project of architectural education that brings us together.

Thank you,

June Williamson, AIA, LEED AP

ACSA President
